The Rivalry

UCLA and USC have the top two athletic programs in the country. They both rank among the elite in virtually every collegiate sport. As detailed below, UCLA leads the nation with 139 total National Championships and is second with 118 NCAA Team Championships. USC's 131 total and 107 NCAA titles rank second and third, respectively. The Bruins boast the most women's titles while the Trojans claim the most men's.

In addition to the championships, the two schools have churned out large numbers of professional athletes. USC has produced the second most MLB players (behind Arizona State) and has the second most in the NFL (behind Notre Dame), while UCLA has sent the second most to the NBA (behind Kentucky). Through the 2016 Olympics, USC has produced more Olympians (467), medals (308), and gold medals (144) than any other university in the nation. For their part, UCLA ranks second in Olympians with 429, and third in medals and golds with 262 and 133, respectively. Their 570 combined Summer Olympic medals would rank 7th on the country list and account for more than a quarter of all US medals, while their 277 combined gold medals would rank 3rd behind only USA and USSR.
